Pioneered a significant extension of the scope of level-crossing spectroscopy, allowing hyperfine structure effects in excited atomic states not radiatively coupled to the ground state to be observed in step-wise fluorescence. As a part-time instructor taught standard university-level physics courses in mechanics and electricity and magnetism.
